The very popular Ola electric scooter is expected to launch in a price range of Rs 85,000 to Rs 1.1 lakh. “The bulk of the internal combustion engine (ICE) scooter market in India is between Rs 85,000 and Rs 1.1 lakh on the road, and this is where we will be positioning our range of electric scooters,” said Varun Dubey, marketing manager of Ola Electric. The price range represents 70 percent of sales of conventional ICE scooters in the country. “We are addressing the entire two-wheeler market in the country, which is around 21 million per year. We see no reason why customers will not switch to electricity, ”he added to the business daily.
With this move, Ola’s goal is to get 50% or more of the total market for ICE two-wheelers and electric vehicles, Dubey said.
Currently, the total two-wheeler market stands at 21 million vehicles per year, of which 6.5 million are scooters, while the rest are mostly motorcycles.
Ola Electric said on Saturday that they had received around 1 lakh of reservations for their next scooter within 24 hours of starting the process. The company had opened the reservation for its electric scooter on the evening of July 15.
Ola claims that the electric scooter would be the leader in its class in terms of speed, range, trunk space as well as technology.
Ola plans to reveal the features and price of the scooter in the coming days.
The scooter will be made in India for the world. It is said to be manufactured at the company’s two-wheeler factory, which is currently being built in Tamil Nadu. The first phase of the Ola Futurefactory is nearing completion and will soon be operational, while the full capacity of 10 million vehicles per year will be built by next year.
