With revised two-wheeler safety standards in play, Piaggio India equips its Vespa and Aprilia scooter models with the necessary safety kit.

From 2019, Piaggio India has equipped the entire range of Vespa and Aprilia scooters with an anti-lock braking system (ABS) or a combined braking system (CBS), in accordance with the decision of the Ministry of Road Transport and highways on two-wheeler safety standards upgrade. The reason we say “one or the other” technology is because all scooters available in the 150cc variants receive ABS, while the lower segment 125cc scooters receive CBS. With this, Vespa and Aprilia become the only two brands in India to offer ABS on scooters.

Sharing his thoughts on the upgrade, Mr. Diego Graffi, MD and CEO of Piaggio India said, “As a global brand, we are committed to ensuring the safety of our customers and are delighted to comply with safety standards. changes of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. This decision will improve overall safety and driving standards for the two-wheeler industry. For us, our product portfolio was already ABS compliant last year, but we are now launching them across the country to meet general demand. ‘

So, to sum up, Vespa models like the Elegant 150, VXL 150 and SXL 150 will be available with ABS while the Vespa VXL 125, LX 125, SXL 125, Notte, Red and ZX 125 will be available with CBS. Likewise, the Aprilia SR 125 is now available with CBS while the Aprilia SR 150 and SR 150 Race will be equipped with ABS. To promote its range of ABS-equipped scooters, Piaggio India has also partnered with PayTM to provide cash benefits of up to 6,000.
